Estie goes Asian

Wow, I'm in Singapore!

I arrived here last night, and have had one of my 2 nights in a hotel in the middle of Chinatown. Singapore is so big, so tall, but it feels like most Asian cities - hot, humid, busy and a mix of old and new.

I visited the Asian civilisations museum this morning, and spent 1 1/2 hours looking at Asian history - it included China, Singapore, Thailand, India, Vietnam and many other countries, as well as cultural and religious aspects of these countries.

There are so many people here. I can see why people say New Zealand is so tranquil. I'd forgotten how frantic urban Asia is.

At the moment I'm squished in a net bar in this funny shopping centre. It is on the basement level, right at the end of the mall and around an obscure corner. I am jammed at the end of a tiny corridor of computers next to a whole line of adolescent (or pre-adolescent) boys who are playing computer games and shouting at each other. It's very stuffy! I think I might go soon.

Bring on Christchurch botanical gardens! I need some fresh air and trees. It's great to be in Asia though, and it's nice not to have a schedule.

Off to Kunming, in Southwest China tomorrow! My flight is at 8:10 am, so the bus to take me to the airport is coming at 5:30 am. Early start .... but jet lag helps! More later.

Yes, I miss you too!

I'm in Singapore airport now; there is free internet and you can use it for 15 minutes at a time.

I should have thought twice before going to a Thai restaurant with a friend last night (in Singapore) and ordering heaps of spicy dishes!!!! Esther, Esther, Esther! Do you never learn?

My flight for Kunming leaves in just under an hour. Hope you guys are having fun :)

Laters!
